Areas of current interest

Multimedia backend design

I build complete systems for multimedia transcoding in high-performance production environments. The reliability and scalability of these systems allow your front end or app server design team to concentrate on building effective user interfaces.

I have up-to-date experience building Unix-based transcoders that use open source projects including FFmpeg and Gstreamer. Your transcoder can be delivered as an Amazon EC2 machine image in order to take advantage of the scalability and flexible cost structure of cloud computing.

Design Consulting

I work as a design consultant with web publishers who need somebody who has a combination of technical and communication skills to steer projects that are being implemented by offsite teams. Areas I have focused on include general design best practice and search engine optimization.

Design and Programming

I also do completely original site designs from conception, to design, to implementation in PHP and MySQL using scalable, optimized architectures.

Historical

Microsoft-based Intranet applications

I have implemented complete Intranet applications for wholesale commerce based on ASP, Access and SQL Server and using early examples of Ajax-like techniques in Javascript. This is no longer an area of current focus, but I will be incorporating Ajax techniques into future Internet projects. Demos available in person.

Microsoft-based Internet Stores

I have worked on an online photo and framing shop based on Microsoft ASP and SQL Server technologies. This is no longer an area of current focus as I have moved to PHP and other open source technologies running on a UNIX platform.

(Human) Translation

I have worked on some translation projects that required my particular combination of linguistic and technical skills. I will consider new projects like this on a case-by-case basis.
